Acceptable Use Policy template

What's in the download

  • The Acceptable Use Policy as an editable Word file and as a PDF.
  • What the policy covers: general principles of acceptable use, workstation and endpoint standards, email, collaboration and generative AI use, prohibited activities, mobile devices and bring-your-own-device, remote and home office working, and privacy and monitoring expectations.
  • SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria referenced inline, so a reviewer can see which control area each section addresses.
  • A short fill-in guide cut to this policy, as Word and PDF. Every placeholder is in [brackets], so Find and Replace does most of the work.

Acceptable Use

What you need

  • A word processor that opens .docx files, and the time to make the policy match how your company really works.
  • Nothing else. There is no intake and no waiting.

What this is not

  • A starting point you edit yourself, not a finished, audit-ready policy.
  • Not tailored to your company, and no revisions or review of your edits are included.
  • Not a policy set. It may use a term, or point to another policy, that is defined in a policy you did not buy. It uses the names "Tier 1: Restricted" and "Tier 2: Confidential" for sensitive data. They are defined in section 4.1 of the Data Classification Policy, which is not in this download, and the policy explains them where it first uses them.
  • Not a certification, an audit, or a promise that you will pass one. SOC 2 attestation comes from an independent CPA firm.
  • Not legal advice.

Questions

Questions about the acceptable use policy template.

What do I get?
Four files: the Acceptable Use Policy as an editable Word file and as a PDF, and a short fill-in guide for it, also as Word and PDF.
Is this the same document as in the template bundle?
Yes. The $29 bundle holds the same five policy files. Each single comes with a fill-in guide cut to its own policy, and the bundle's guide covers all five.
Does it refer to other policies?
Yes, by name: the Data Classification Policy. It is not in this download. It uses the names "Tier 1: Restricted" and "Tier 2: Confidential" for sensitive data. They are defined in section 4.1 of the Data Classification Policy, which is not in this download, and the policy explains them where it first uses them. The guide tells you what to do about each reference: write the policy, point to your own document, or delete the reference.
Is it tailored to my company?
No. It is the same file for every buyer, with placeholders in [brackets] for you to fill in. There is no intake, no review of your edits, and no revision.
What if the files don't open?
Email us within 14 days and we'll fix it or refund you in full. The refund policy has the details.
Can I use it at my company?
Yes. Use it, edit it, and share it inside your company. You can't resell it, or hand it out as your own product. The terms have the full wording.
How was it written?
An AI model helps draft the documents we write. We work from public frameworks (the SOC 2 Trust Services Criteria and NIST references). The templates are the same set of files for every buyer, so we do not review them order by order.
I'd rather have it written for my stack.
That is the custom set: the same five core policies, tailored to your answers.

Your order is covered by our terms, refund policy, and privacy notice. Questions first? Email us.
